Founder of Aikido

Morihei Ueshiba (1883-1969), the founder of Aikido, was the foremost martial artist of his time and is known to his students as O-Sensei (Great Teacher). He recognized the illusory nature of victory based on strength.

His spiritual struggle was resolved through an enlightenment experience and led him to the development of Aikido, a martial art informed by a philosophy of harmony.
